Capitol View Mound
East Greenbush

Summer 1998: Discovered after my home health aide was assigned to care for the elderly man who lives on and owns the site.

LOCATION: One mile southeast of the intersection of US 9 & 20 with US 9 & 20, on the southwest side of US 9 & 20.

DIRECTIONS: Go to the US 4, 9 & 20 intersection in East Greenbush. Go east on US 9 & 20 past Hannaford Shopping Plaza and Gilligan Road (on right). After one mile, turn right after Ford car dealer onto Elliot Avenue. Go to end of Elliot (200 yards), then turn left-a private driveway leading to a single residence. Proceed 300 yards till driveway loops around at private residence.

DIMENSIONS: Difficult to judge due to thick stands of trees masking terrain. Perhaps 50 feet high. Long, narrow profile aligned to northwest.

FEATURES: This site is carefully hidden, and not visible from any nearby road, even in the winter with no leaves on trees. Land slopes sharply down from edges of private driveway, especially on the south. On the north and south the land forms a shallow depression -- a hollow basin -- not a typical water erosion landscape feature.

Residents in the private home report there was a spring and small pond in the hollow on the southeast.

VEGETATION: Thickly covered by a mature stand of tall mixed hardwood trees. On older topographic maps, this is the oldest patch of forest in the immediate neighborhood. No other vegetation survey attempted yet.

HISTORY: NA, although the name "Capitol View Lane" suggests this site has a colorful, distinctive history. If there were no trees on ther site, undoubtedly this mound would provide a clear view to the west of Albany and the NYS Capitol nearly 6 miles away.

DOWSING: Extra-ordinary waterflows and ley lines. Initial dowsing survey (May 5000) located four very large water domes (blue) rising beneath the mound, each feeding 13 water veins of at least 30 gallons per minute. Eight energy ley lines (red) cross in a early spoked wheel pattern in the loop of the driveway. The chance of such orderly configurations occurring at a natural site are minimal.
